All That Glitters Is Not Ringgold

Ringgold, VA is a crossroads without much that needs mention except a restored old depot with a caboose. Oh, and a trail.

The trail is along the route of the old Danville/Richmond railroad line and is where there tracks used to be in the distant past. Now there is nothing but butterflies, dragonflies, and old bikers making use of it. The latter was me today as I decided to pull out my two-wheeled transport and see this for myself. I took some pics along the way I hope you enjoy.

It often develops a special flora and fauna along abandoned tracks. I like these pics and especially the old, abandoned, houses. Thanks for sharing your bike ride.

Is this the track of the Southern Railway Co.
On November 28,1929, Willie Peayton Puryear died in a train wreck in Ringgold, Va.
Looking for just how he died….riding on train…fell off…hit while walking etc etc…
Do you know of any train fatality archives?

The track I rode on was the Richmond & Danville RR it’s entire life. However, I don’t think any other track went through Ringgold so it might be the one you are looking for. I have no knowledge of records but since it’s so close to Danville, VA I’d start with there historical society. Good luck to you in your quest.
